Google Cr-48
Now onto the INTERESTING news. You may have heard yesterday about the huge Google press conference officially opening the gates for these machines to start shipping to Developers, Testers, and regular users. I fall under the /Dev/User group, I’m a developer and a regular user. I hope I receive a Cr-48 netbook/notebook as these things tout awesome tech specs.
Specs of the device include a 12.1-inch display screen, a full size QWERTY keyboard, a webcam, a clickpad, a built-in Qualcomm Gobi 3G chip for Verizon data Usage in the US, 802.11n dual-band WiFi and Flash storage. The CR-48 will be able to handle an impressive 8 hours of active use, and it can remain on standby for 8 days according to Google. Oh and its totally unmarked, no markings anywhere. its cool!
You may be disappointed to hear that there is no caps lock button on the CR-48 though -as this has been replaced by a search button.
I never use Caps Lock anyway, I use shift most of the time and if I need to type a run on SENTENCE IN CAPS LOCK, HOW HARD IS IT TO HOLD YOUR FINGER ON SHIFT. I see no point in caps lock key, so Google taking it and replacing it with a search key, clever and smart!
Come on, thats some SWEET tech specs for a netbook/notebook. That’s pretty much a Google-ized MacBook Air only better since it runs Chrome OS and has no frills, no hard drive, no problems to deal with like corrupted system files! Did I mention that if somehow you DO break the system files they can self heal? Yeah you heard me, self healing system. Why cant ALL OS’s have it. Oh well. A Gobi chip, I’ve only seen that in full fledged high end laptops. Not a netbook now thats pioneering. 802.11n in a netbook! Thats new! Flash storage… Ahh, no more having to run smartmonutil every so often (SMART for hard disk status checker) a 12.1 In’ widescreen screen, never seen that on a netbook… This thing reminds me of my Droid X taking a whole bottle of steroids then mutating into a laptop… Theres no limit to what Cr-48 can do. So theres no limit to what it can do to you (Quote belongs to Verizon / Motorola not me) Now onto the reasons why I need a Cr-48 NOTEBOOK.
1. I get by with my Mac for heavy photo / video editing otherwise I’m on instant messenger and web apps all the time. and Anything I currently don’t do on the web (document editing and such) can easily be moved there.
2. I need my day to day machine to just work, no hassle no frills all speed and work just WORK. Not bashing anyones hardware or OS, I just want faster and stronger
3. I need something that is fast to learn easy to use and powerful, Chrome OS is all three when you add in webstore apps.
4. I need something totally cloud based. I don’t want to be spending more money on back up hard drives when i don’t need to. I don’t have money for that!!!!! (THIS IS A BIG ONE APPLE!!! BIG SLAP IN MY FACE!!!)
5. I need something that maintains its self, self updates, self fixes its self. I don’t want to sit there with boxes saying “YOU NEED TO UPDATE. SECURITY PROBLEM.”
6. I need something that does not need me to buy security software. I want it all to be right there built in.
The google Chrome OS and Cr-48 have all of the above or WILL have all of the above. This is why I deserve to get a Cr-48 for me to test.
