My website changed for Feb 08

Jenny filed two support requests with me privately in an instant message.

She reported that the redirection from the “My Blog” sidebar link was slow, I verified this and tweaked the code a bit, this should be fixed.

She also reported that my front page picture needs an update, couldn’t complain and decided to use the gas pump picture hehe. :D

Went to Chicago Auto Show 2009

Just got some gas for my chair, JUST KIDDING.

Just got some gas for my chair, JUST KIDDING.

Today we drove to the auto show. The drive was not that bad as most of the traffic was, well, churches and other common Sunday type things. But, when we got downtown near the auto show area we knew it was going to be mayhem, and it was, absolute traffic up the wazoo. Once we got into the McCormick Place area I began taking pictures on my Nikon D40. I enjoyed taking all of the pictures. Dad took some pictures on my camera and our Sony DSC-W50, which explains the varied resolutions within the gallery, something about that camera is wonky and I will need to fix it. It is a 6.0 Mega pixel camera, and the picture resolutions are way below what my Nikon D40 generates. Click the picture above to get into the gallery and, fill-er-up! HAHA! :D

Camera product links provided for photo buffs who want more info on our two beloved camera’s I cannot maintain the links; therefore, if they go down go ahead and Google those model numbers.

Our Sony DSC-W50 was gotten a long time ago, maybe 5-7 years ago, and is still snapping  away like new even after suffering being dropped repeatedly by my clumsy hands, the battery is getting a bit weak but otherwise the camera is in very healthy shape.

My Nikon D40 which I got 2-3 years ago is in great shape, has had to get it’s sensor cleaned once in it’s lifetime because I was an idiot and tried cleaning it myself, leave sensor cleanings to the pros

Trip to England grounded, literally

Grounded Jumbo Jet

Grounded Jumbo Jet

My trip to England, is literally grounded. It is not possible for me to travel on a commercial airliner in a regular airline seat without the ability to move for eight hours and Make-A-Wish is unable to make much more accommodation than the chest strap, to hold me up during the flight. This still leaves me prone to the following things, inability to urinate or defecate while I’m on the flight, pressure ulcers, circulatory problems, respiratory difficulty with reduced atmospheric pressure, infection, and many other problems in flight. This is very upsetting for me, and many other people who are currently residing in the United Kingdom. Many people were expecting to visit me, or have me visit them.  the major reason for this is that the trip cannot be completed in a short enough amount of time. If the Concorde still existed we would have no problem doing this. So this is my plea, British Airways, bring back the god damn Concorde!!!

Me and Make-A-Wish are working on creating an alternative plan, I will get back to everyone on that alternative plan once it is in place.

THIS IS FINAL NOTICE THAT THE TRIP TO ENGLAND HAS BEEN CANCELED! :(

no more pump, bolus feedings by G-tube

70CC Catheter Tip Syringe

70CC Catheter Tip Syringe

I am very excited to tell you about this news.

We have decided to begin doing an experiment this week, bolus feedings by the G-tube. We have never been able to this, due to my sheer spasticity affecting my stomach. Since the baclofen pump is at a “pretty good” dose I decided that it might be possible to do this. Since early March of last year, I have had to have a line hanging off my stomach for up to 12 hours overnight. Not only was this uncomfortable, whenever I would have a seizure or other spasmodic movement, I would pull on my G-Tube and risk pulling it out, either way it was quite painful when this happened. And it happened pretty often, maybe once or twice to three times a month. But on to the good part, since yesterday morning I have “unwired” I have been tolerating the bolus feedings with 250 mL per feeding at a rate of approximately 70 mL per five minutes. My stomach does not spasm and make me puke anymore, like it happened in the hospital when I initially got to G-tube and they attempted bolus feeding. Although I have some minor nausea for a few minutes after the feeding. This is probably because I am infusing too fast. I am going to try what my old girlfriend used to do, some of you may know her some of you may not, however I am not going to go there. Tomorrow I’m going to start making my feedings last 15 minutes for each one. That would mean I would have to put in 15 mL per minute, which is 75 mL every five minutes.

I will get back to you all, on how the new infusions scheme works!

A quick genetics follow-up, and a meeting with a friend in X-Ray

Geneticist Dr. Carol Booth

Geneticist Dr. Carol Booth

Today, we went for a genetics follow-up following my MDA visit. We told her, of the unfortunate worthlessness of the MDA visit. I called the insurance company earlier this week and asked them about the genetic testing company and they told me that my doctor has to file a special diagnostic procedure authorization. I conveyed this information to her, and she accepted it. She explained to me that she will call the insurance company, or send them a letter and try to get it authorized. She also said that she will look into the alternative venues of getting testing that can possibly help us diagnose my disease. We had a bit of fun with our humor. And then she did the exam, on previous exams I presented as hyperreflexic, this time it was absolutely no response at all. However I can possibly blame this on the baclofen. Either way she noted everything in the chart and said she will call us within the next few weeks with some information on where to go to from here.

Radiology Tech Tammy

Radiology Tech Tammy

Today, when we were walking out of the hospital, I saw someone familiar, she saw me, and she came over to me. After a few seconds, I recognized that it was Tammy, my radiology technician who I absolutely love. The last time I had x-rays was in November of last year, her and James are my two favorite technicians and they always do my x-ray series, at least from that point on. James had done a series on me before, and only twice have I not done my x-rays with James and Tammy one series came out terrible and the other was a video fluoroscopy of my spine for a spinal tap. Tammy gave me a good tight hug before we left. And gave me her personal phone number and e-mail. Hopefully we should stay in contact better, her e-mail at the hospital, she does not check often because she is usually working in the x-ray rooms. On the other hand she checks her personal e-mail more often, because she has better access to it. To be honest I can’t wait till my next x-ray series, because I enjoy seeing Tammy and James so much along with those awesome PVC lead aprons. They definitely make for warmer hugs hehe. I still want one for myself. ;) :P

Me & Rocky Snuggling Up Together

Me & Rocky Snuggling Up Together

A special friend of mine visited me tonight at my house. His name is Rocky Guido, he is the one who was behind getting me my very own server. We talked Macintosh computers, My dictation program, His job, and some other topics. What I really want to say is that he is a very very very special friend to me. He is almost like family to me, or a brother whom I never had. I don’t say this about a lot of people, there are a select few friends of mine who are close enough to be family. I had an absolutely awesome time with Rocky. Just as I had imagined from the pictures I have seen he is a very huggable type of guy and didn’t mind my random hugs. Shown above is a picture my dad took of me snuggling up to Rocky.

I have uploaded a photo gallery, and will probably add more photos tomorrow. He is going to be coming back for a second visit tomorrow.

Instead of moving my files, and risking damage to them. We are going to leave them on this server. This server will become mine and the new server will become a sherver much like this server was a sherver. Disabled planet has been re-enabled. Other than this there is not much else interesting going on right now in my life.

Again thank you Siteground for giving us a second server for free. We are really thankful for this addition.

Alinssite and Disabledplanet.net and all my other stuff to move to own server!

Hello everyone, this will be the last blog post that I am making before I move to my very own server. This is a just any old server. It is a very special server. My hosting partner Roderigo Guido has contacted  Siteground about donating a server to me. Siteground read Roderigo’s letter and agreed to donate me a server. This new server is identical to my current server. The big difference is that Roderigo no longer has the burden of having to pay for my hosting and also have my stuff on his server. Roderigo is a very close friend of mine, so it really wasn’t much of a burden to him, but he still knew how much I really wanted to have my own server.

Now the moving process is very involved, and this is why this is my last post for now. The moving process involves moving very fragile files called my SQL databases, these are files that are used by systems like WordPress, PHPbb3 and Gallery2.  these files are very easy to damage and are very dependent on their server. Therefore special care must be given to these files when moving them from one server to another, they have to be edited in a special way to allow them to work on a new server. This process can take almost a few days. So if you don’t hear from me on the blog for more than a few days don’t worry, just know that were still moving the server.

Bottom line, I will not be posting blog posts until we are on new server!

Do not post comments to this blog post until I notify you that we are on new server. Your comment will not get moved to the new server.

I will be providing status updates on the big move using http://twitter.com/alins  THIS IS THE ONLY WAY I CAN UPDATE YOU AT THIS TIME, PLEASE KEEP THIS LINK WITH YOU.

I got MacSpeech Dictate

Me and MacSpeech Dictate headset + Box Picture

First, things first I am a bit too lazy in Photoshop I forgot to take the selectors off of the MacSpeech Dictate box picture.

Onto the actual news now. I got MacSpeech Dictate at a heavy discount, and I ordered it on January 31. Ever since I ordered it I was very excited about receiving it and yesterday I received a call from UPS stating that my package was delayed because the address on the label was incorrect. However, I quickly rectified this with a UPS service representative and they were able to get the package on a truck for delivery today. As usual with any new piece of technology that I get I ripped open the box carefully and I got it set up in my computer. Once I got, it set up I went through five minute training which seemed a lot shorter than five minutes. After that I excitedly started using it with Adium which some of you know as an instant messaging program for Macintosh. I was very excited to know that the software was recognizing my speech very quickly and very easily and was typing so quickly for me I tried to compete against the software in another instant message, and I just couldn’t keep up. So this definitely proves that the software is much faster than I can type currently with my neurological disease. If you have problems typing, have weaker arm tone, or other problems with your arms. I strongly suggest going to MacSpeech.com and checking out the software there and consider purchasing yourself a copy. This is the best speech software I have ever used in my life. I got the idea to purchase it from my cell phone which is a Blackberry storm which uses the same speech control system to control its voice command system. I was intrigued with its accuracy, and therefore I became interested in the Dragon NaturallySpeaking engine. Then I came across MacSpeech dictate. I got really excited because I knew this software would definitely help me save my arms from pain and suffering from having to type all day and all night. And look at this giant blog post that I typed using nothing but the software. Rarely do you see me type posts this long but I think you will start seeing posts this long more frequently now that I have the software.

This entire post was typed using MacSpeech Dictate.
